It appears that the cups have a plastic coating on the inside, which I hadn't really noticed or realized till analysis around it, and then upon feeling the cup it renders feeling. Back in the day I think the same "water proofing" effect was achieved through wax.

On another note... APPARENTLY you cannot microwave the sleeves either.

But you CAN microwave those new $2 plastic cups - however use a sleeve.

Mine says microwave and dishwasher safe. It's a ceramic one tho.
